Through many years of service in Florida, we have perfected the process of our concept of aerification, leading to the development of the Air2G2 machine. We give great attention to detail in each and every new machine we produce that will be used to solve the most problematic of turf issues – soil compaction.
The founder Glen Black, had a vision for many years of building and marketing a machine that would alleviate soil compaction under the playing surfaces of turf grasses. The founder honed the concept into an efficient and practical application by servicing several golf courses and football fields, observing the impact of the process on the turf over a long period of time.
Additionally, the founder envisioned a machine that would be the perfect size for this new procedure. A team of dedicated people worked through the design and fabrication to produce a sleek and marketable machine that will be the mainstay of the industry.
The Air2G2 is self-propelled aerification machine on three-wheel platform with smooth, wide flotation tires. It is powered by a Kohler Command Pro 19 horsepower engine. It has a hydrostatic drive-axle that is actuated by the steering handle bar. The pneumatic system is powered by an Ingersoll Rand two-stage air compressor.
All of the components of the Air2G2 are pneumatically powered and controlled by a PLC unit that enables the entire process to be automatically activated by the push of one button. The Air2G2 is a quiet and efficient machine that is easily operated and maintained.
Our machine actually drives probes into the ground at a depth of 10 inches, and then injects compressed air through these probes. This causes a fracturing effect of the subsoil as the air works its way back to the surface. The fissures that the moving air creates loosen the soil, breaking up the “black layer” that is often the culprit in weak and unhealthy turf plants.
The increased porosity of the soil enables the plant roots to grow deeper, reaching the latent nutrients, which decreases the amount of fertilizer necessary for healthy turf. The increased positive microbial activity in the soil also alleviates bacteria and fungus in the root zone. As a result of increased root depth and plant health, the turf ultimately becomes more tolerable to drought. Therefore, the amount of water for the turf can also be reduced.
Although this process allows the consumer to decrease their budget concerning fertilizer, fungicide, and irrigation, the most innovative aspect of the Air2G2 is minimal to zero surface disruption. Once an operator has completed servicing of the entire green, it is immediately ready for play. This alone will be the biggest money saver for the owner of the Air2G2 machine.
No longer will it be necessary to close a golf course for extended periods of time to aerate the greens. Our process will limit the intensive collection of pulled cores and adding amendments which are necessary after traditional turf aeration. Depending on the amount of play, one application by the Air2G2 machine, as opposed to typical aeration, will pay for one Air2G2 machine.
The course owner will no longer be held hostage by the concept of aeration that disrupts the playing surface of their greens. Annual revenues of the course will increase while the maintenance budget decreases.
